Amy's Musical history

Amy Obenski has a wealth musical experience. She's been teaching piano and voice for over twenty years. During this time, she released seven full-length albums, several singles, and has toured internationally. In 2020 she began producing music for other artists.

Amy grew up in San Diego, California, where she began singing for guests in her living room when she was four years old. She was enrolled in choir in kindergarten and started private piano lessons at age six. Amy continued to study piano and thrived in award-winning classical and jazz choirs throughout high school. During this time she also dabbled in musical theater and began diligently writing poetry.

Amy went to UC Santa Cruz where she focused on piano performance, studying classical music, singing in the college choir, and leading a church choir on the side. During this time, her dream was to become a singer-songwriter but it felt like a big leap from the classical and jazz realm.

After graduation, Amy tried working in environmental policy for a couple years. And though passionate about the environment, she quickly realized this life wasn't for her. Music was in her heart. At that point she began writing songs and picked up the guitar. A friend graciously offered to record her in his living room, and began showing her how to record her own music. This became her first album. To support herself in her singer-songwriter projects, Amy began teaching voice and piano. This was about 2003.

Her second album was recorded in the same friend's house, but Amy produced and mixed the entire thing. Her song, Carousel, from that album, was placed on the TV Show, Grey's Anatomy. After that, she was hooked on songwriting. She created her own home-style recording studio and taught herself how to record her own music. She even worked as a listening tester at Dolby for five years, honing her ears for record and music production.

During this progression into songwriting and music production, Amy continued to teach voice and piano. Her teaching soon became a passion as well. She enjoys sharing her knowledge and love for music with others. Eventually Amy was hired by Myriad Music in San Mateo, California, where she was trained in piano pedagogy, improving her skills as a teacher. She worked there for ten steady years while also teaching voice at Open Voice in San Francisco.  Eventually she began taking her own students and production clients from home.
